Rust Tool Cupboard: building privilege and upkeep

Two Tool Cupboard functions

The TC concerns building privilege and upkeep resources, described separately in the official Rust Wiki. Authorization controls building privileges; resource reserves support protection against decay.

Check both participant authorization and adequate materials. Passing one check does not satisfy the other.

Recheck reserves after changes

After expanding or upgrading, inspect current upkeep and protection time in the cupboard. An older budget note describes the previous base. Record when you checked and when the group plans to refill it.

Use the actual server’s values. Facepunch documents server upkeep parameters, so another guide’s assumptions may differ. Investigate server rules and recent building changes before relying on an old calculation.

Why group size matters

In Breach and Clear on September 3, 2026, Facepunch introduced group-related upkeep tax. Its calculation includes more than current TC authorization, also considering certain lock authorizations and recently removed access.

Counting only current cupboard names may not explain the cost. Check the game’s displayed tax and server rules, especially after changing group membership.

Cupboard markers versus upkeep information

Rust products expose different amounts of base-object information. Enigma Rust, for example, lists cupboard upkeep display. Another product may provide only a Tool Cupboard marker.

Compare those functions separately. An object name does not establish remaining upkeep, authorized-player lists or other fields. For your own base, verify its current in-game interface first. Report discrepancies in additional labels to product support.

A short check before logging off

Ensure reserves match the planned absence, intended participants have access and recent changes have been accounted for. Agree who will check supplies next rather than relying on one person’s memory.

When comparing products in the Rust catalog, confirm TC information depth and server compatibility separately. The cover is an illustration; pictured supplies are not an upkeep calculation for a real base.
